Baseball Odds in Interleague Gambling Finish with American League Win
Interleague MLB betting probabilities for 2010 are complete and like usual, the AL was the champ but this year it wasn’t by much.
The American League went 134-118 in the 252 Interleague competitions. Most of the success versus the baseball lines for the American League was as a result of the success of the Chicago White Sox and Red Sox.
Baseball betting probabilities like the AL a lot of the time when they encounter the NL due to the fact of the recent dominance. The American League hasn’t lost the season series against the NL since 2003. The AL can thank the White Sox, who went an amazing 15-3 in Interleague play, this year. The White Sox went from also-rans in the AL Central contest to a contender due to the fact of their success in Interleague play.
The leading hitter in Interleague tournament was Texas’ Josh Hamilton who hit .472 with 34 hits. New York Mets 3rd baseman David Wright had 24 RBIs to lead all hitters in Interleague play. Chicago’s Jack Peavy had the lowest ERA at 0.78 while Mark Buehrle had the most victories with four in Interleague competition. With eight, Bobby Jenks had the most saves.
Some other teams also had fantastic success versus the baseball probabilities, though the Chicago White Sox were unreal in Interleague play. The Boston Red Sox made a big run in the standings based on their Interleague track record. Boston went 13-5 in Interleague play. In their 18 Interleague competitions, the Texas Rangers went 14-4.
Even with the Chicago White Sox, Red Sox and Rangers doing extremely well versus the baseball lines, the American League only hardly won the overall series. The New York Mets did very well for the NL as they went 13-5.
The Boston Red Sox suffered a variety of injuries, so interleague play wasn’t all great news for the AL. They lost second baseman Dustin Pedroia, starting pitcher Clay Buchholz and catcher Victor Martinez due to the fact of injury. The Florida Marlins played poorly in Interleague play and they even went so far as to fire their manager Fredi Gonzalez.
When the American League was founded in 1901 to challenge the National League’s monopoly on pro baseball, a fierce rivalry was born that continues to this day.
The American League’s normal domination of the MLB season can easily be attributed to a variety of factors other than the statistics of its participants. For example, the AL has the designated hitter rule. This basically gives American League teams a major advantage over NL teams by offering them an extra man. Given the track record of interleague play this year it is certainly not that a lot of an advantage, but it could make the difference.
Between 1903 and 2009, there’ve been 105 World Series played. (The Series was called off in 1904 and 1994). The AL has won 63 times while the NL has won only 42 times in those 105 series.
We say farewell to Interleague competition for now. A full slate of Interleague competitions won’t occur again until next May and the AL and NL will not meet again until the World Series.
