Mariners Still Have Difficulty against MLB Odds
The Mariners were considered before the season began to be a contender against the MLB odds in MLB betting in the American League West.
What were people thinking? The Mariners continually have difficulty against baseball odds at the sportsbook and have the 2nd-worst track record in the American League.
Because they’ve got Felix Hernandez and Cliff Lee, MLB odds still prefer the Mariners at times. The Mariners are not assured to win, even when those two pitchers go to the mound. The greatest pitcher for the Mariners this season has been Doug Fister but he is on the DL. With Fister injured, the remainder of the rotation is terrible, though when Hernandez and Lee go to the mound the Mariners can at the very least be competitive. Which is not the biggest problem for Seattle. An even larger issue is the reality that they can’t hit a lick.
The Mariners considered the inclusion of Chone Figgins would make them tough to stop in terms of scoring runs. The Mariners didn’t do anything to pick up the slack when Figgins started gradually this season though. Figgins is hitting a little better but there is no one to drive him in. Franklin Gutierrez is not a number three hitter and Jose Lopez has been very unsatisfactory. Milton Bradley has had his moments when he is in the lineup nevertheless the squad badly misses Russell Branyan who they oddly let get away to Cleveland. The Mariners were getting some good play from Mike Sweeney but he is now injured. Ken Griffey Jr. was so bad that he retired. When a squad cannot hit and with only two reliable starters, they’re going to lose most of the time. The bullpen hasn’t assisted things as closer David Aaardsma has already blown four saves and the middle relief has been dreadful.
Seattle is nearly certainly going to trade Cliff Lee and look to next season. The squad just has played inadequately most of the season and it may already be too late to save the season. The squad needs Fister and Sweeney to get healthy and they need Aaardsma to close out matches like he should. That would at the very least make them competitive and give them some hope going into the 2nd half of the season.
The Mariners are members of the Western Division of the AL who were founded in 1977. As a squad, they’ve long struggled. They didn’t have a winning squad until 1991, and they still didn’t have any real success until 1995 when they won their first division championship. They were able to beat the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series. A game-winning hit in Game 5 of this series, which occurred in the 12th inning, has since become a renowned moment in squad history.
In 2001 the Mariners set a record for most wins in a single season with 116. In spite of several successful seasons before this, they’ve got never won an AL Tournament. They are also one of only three MLB teams never to have played in a World Series.
